Roxanne Marie Giacchetti SofiaSOFIA

Roxanne Marie Giacchetti Sofia, sixty one years old, died peacefully on September 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Roxanne, the much loved child of DeLores and Serto Giacchetti, was born in Chicago on June 21, 1956. Her big sister Cindy Lou and her younger brother Allen Serto Giacchetti, along with his wife Angela Porreca Giacchetti, know they were blessed with the best sister ever and remained close to Roxanne throughout her life.

On September 10, 1983, Roxanne married Raymond Anthony Sofia in a ceremony that beautifully reflected their romance. Her children Danielle Belle, Adam David, and Kristen Marie were the center of her life and she adored them. Roxanne was involved in all their school and outside activities, including Danielle’s art projects, Adam’s rock band, and Krissy’s softball games and cheerleading. Roxanne had a very close relationship with her own mother, DeLores, which was reflected in Roxanne’s own loving, supportive and devoted parenting. Roxanne happily extended that warm nurturing to her beloved nephew and nieces, Allen Anthony, April

Marie and Rosemary Ann Giacchetti.

Despite her valiant daily battle with COPD and other health difficulties, Roxanne found great joy in extending her love to the newest generation of her family. For the last two years Roxanne has delighted in the kisses and hugs of granddaughter Avery Belle (aka “Lulu”) and grandson Samuel Archer (aka “Super Sam”). Roxanne treasured her time with her “big boys” Leland Anthony, Dominick Liam, Mason Alexander and Carson Troy and she happily opened her heart to Christopher, Chloe and Chase Blankenship when her daughter Kristen married Daniel Ryan Blankenship.

Roxanne loved and was loved by a large extended family and many life long friends. Roxanne shared a special bond with her Godmother Sandy Bober, her cousin James Giacchetti, and her friends Liz Meza and Shelly Collins. So many others were close to her heart and would be named here if space allowed.

Roxanne graduated from Kelvyn Park High School in 1974 and studied accounting at Wright Junior College. Roxanne was both a smart business woman and a talented artist. Her career included managing a personal injury law office, serving as the Product & Development Manager and Compliance Officer at Bensenville Community Credit Union, and forming her own arts and  crafts business, known as Woods N’ Things.  Her community activities included many years as an inspiring leader of the Girl Scouts at St. Philomena Parish.

Roxanne’s unlimited capacity to love and the many joys of her life will be celebrated at the Pedersen Ryberg Mortuary,  435 N. York St., Elmhurst with visitation on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 from 3 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.  If desired, please consider a donation at the American Lung Association (lung.org) or Magnificent Mutts (magnificentmutts.org)
